the beatles - revolver

Front

Back

This is an example of the design we hope to use for our DVD. It is not the standard shape but it is more interesting and has more room to include images of the artist, also there would be room to hold the DVD album sleeve and a bonus disk. Also this deign better suits our artist as it isn't the contemporary style but instead its more artistic.

Ne-yo - so sick of love songs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JhNu2yZZhU

this is a link to Neyo's - So sick of love songs (it had to be a link as all the embeds had been disabled)

Through out the video it lays an atmospheric shot behind smaller shots of the artist, we could use this effect in parts of our music video to give a better visual impact, especial when the music builds.

Group 5 animatic

This is our Animatic. Ali and i both drew the pictures and edited them using Final Cut. The two pictures in the animatic of the skate ramp, which is about 1 minute 25 seconds through the clip, and the view of the cars above, which is about 1 minute 40 seconds through are suppose to represent the time lapses of cars and people walking by at a fast speed whiles the main person stands still.

mock adver basic idea

This is just a simple idea of the layout. However, we plan 2 draw the colours out, and add more text. Telling the our customers what the DVD will contain, an that it is worth purchasing.

mock cover basic idea

this is a visual idea of how we could set up our DVD cover if we do not use a 3 fold album case, both images are from the video.

sample text

these are a few ideas for sample text that we could use in all the media products, we have also included possible colour schemes, we need your help in choosing which one to pick.
My idea for the DVD cover. Its a shot from the footage that we have. It's an alley.

Punt times

i have been down to the punt hire point and found at that the latest you can hire a punt from in 6 o'clock.

Filming this weekend

We are still on track for filming this weekend and the weather hasn't changed to much from earlier on this week so the weather hopefully won't affect our filming. We also now have images of the settings that we want to film from the pictures that Michael took.

Thursday, 8 October 2009

The following pictures are photos which i took of different places which we hope to shoot in.

These include two back alleys in Cambridge, some places which we can punt in on the river cam, a roundabout which we could possibly do a time lapse with cars, and the main person standing in the middle of the roundabout, and park side skating ramp.

lead singer

As it is looking unlikely that we will be able to find someone who can play the guitar and is free to star in our music video i am learning a few cords from the dragonfly song so the miming looks more realistic.

I do have a acoustic guitar at home but it is rather old and missing the 6th string, so if anyone else has a better guitar that we could use that would be good.

Also i had been thinking that the lead singer should where a mixture of blue red black and gray. to tie in with the rest of the color schemes.

Time lapse test footage

This is our test footage. We created this video by putting four layers in final cut, and edited the speed and opacity of each of the four video clips.

Auter powerpoint

A while back we looking into directors for inspiration and ideas. these are a few of the notes we made on spike jones
Today we are going to practice filming our time lapse sequence to see how it works so that when we film our music video we will have a better idea about what to do.

magazine and advert idea

this is an idea of how our DVD and advert could be presented. they are closely related to each other and have a recurring theme and colour scheme.

Some of the locations where we plan to film. We will take photos before we shoot for these and other possible locations. some of these locations shown in this picture include shooting at a skate ramp, punting locations and roundabouts.

Planning for filming

we are planning on filming over the weekend on friday, saturday and sunday. i have looked at the weather forcast for the weekend and i don't think it will be raining so we should be able to film everything we need.
Filming times:

Friday 9th - after college - street scenes, around town, at Parkside skate ramps, Chesterton Lane - run down, graffiti-ed house.

Saturday 10th - 5.30pm - during this time we plan to shoot our punt/river scenes.
I have a few lanterns that we can use. I will bring them in for Fridays lesson.

Time lapse
Coldplay - 'Yellow'
The music video below by Coldplay was shot at normal speed, but the artist is singing twice as fast, which they then edited to normal speed to give the effect of the surroundings, and his movement being very slow, whiles he is singing at the same pace of the song. This can be seen in the video by the slow movement of the waves, and slow movement. I also like how the video becomes gradually lighter as the video goes on. Our group may chose to do a similar thing as the song we have chosen talks about the night.

James Morrison -' Please don't stop the rain'
The following video above shows one of James Morrison's music videos in the song 'please don't stop the rain'. As you can see in parts of it, it uses the same slow motion time lapse technique by James Morrison lip singing at twice the speed, and slowing it down in the music video, so it looks like he is walking in slow motion. I also like in this video the part where it is raining sparks and it works well with some of the lyrics in the song.

In our music video, we want to make the main character move at a slow pace in one of the scenes, whiles busy everyday life is sped up around him, making the surrounding people blur, and also making it seem as if the main character is lonely and slow, even know there are people around him. The people not walking at his pace would make him look shut out from everyone else reflecting on the song being quite a lonely song itself, being slow pace and having only one singer.

This could be done by say editing the song so it plays half the speed, and then the person playing the character singing to the track at half the speed, and moving at half the speed they would normally move, whiles the people walking past would be doing so at normal pace.

Sun rising time lapse

We also want to include a sun setting or even a sun rising with a time lapse, making it faster at the end in the long fadeout of the song. The artist did a similar thing in his music video, but at night with the moon, and clouds going past it. The video below shows a similar sunset to what we want to achieve.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdkIwaF2ujs - Click on the link for sun rising time lapse.

As you can see this is a very effective sun rising time lapse. This is exactly what we want to achieve at around 18 seconds into the clip at the end of our music video.

Other time lapses

Other time lapses which we want to do include motorways and roundabouts, with the smudged car lights as the cars go very fast by. The video below shows what we want to achieve.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu9Hh-D7X_k - Click on the link for motorway time lapse.

As you can see the cars going very fast by gives a good effect but obviously we want to shoot a busier motorway.

Location

For our music video we will need to find the following locations:
-Street (alley) with street lights
-Park with a large area of grass.
-Suitable place to punt
-Roundabout that has and area in the middle that is safe to stand in
-Graffiti wall
-Half pipe

For the Street there are some good one for what we want near the Fitzwilliam museum. As for the park either Midsummer Common or Jesus Green. For the punting we will heir a punt and film from the bridges available to the public. As for the rest of the settings we need to put more research in.

time line - new and improved

-00.05

00.00
music starts - punt pulls away from dock and sets off. lead singer been punted by character darkly dressed.
00.13
Cut to singer sitting in park playing guitar. shots including close up of fingers, face and eye. fade a globe in and out of the pupil of the eye.
00.38

02.42
Cut to punt playing guitar
02.56
cut to shot from bridge of punt going off into the distance pan to sky then fade to black
03.13
song ends

This is a fairly detailed guide line for use to follow when we are creating our video so that we know what we need to film and where it is going to go in the video.

Lanters

I looked in Pound land today and i could find any lanters. so If people have them at home we could us those if not we need to rethink what we could use.

Prop List

- Lanterns
- Guitar
- Punt/boat
